Giving Love and Compassion to Your "Enemies" (Part III…)
I. But THEY DON’T LOVE ME!
This is perhaps one of the hardest parts about the whole enchilada: Even if they never end up loving you or asking you for your forgiveness, when they have clearly been in the wrong, you must still love them without conditions simply because that is what God expects. In fact, it is what He commands. And love is His first and foremost commandment to every human alive, so never forget it.
II. But it feels unjust.
Like I said in the last part, I’ve walked in your shoes before: I know it feels like they’re getting away with murder, to put it lightly! But rest assured: They are not; this is simply an opportunity that God is giving, TO YOU, to be the bigger and more mature person ----- He is likely also testing your patience which, when fully tried through the fire, should come out as finer than solid gold. And for more on that note, feel free to delve into the Book of James when you have some extra time. It makes for a great devotional read on the subject, AS DOES EVERY OTHER WORD OF SCRIPTURE, of course. All of it’s good stuff, made to fill our souls with joy, peace and hope!
III. But they’re senseless.
Your enemies can be ruthless animals who show no pity --- let’s be fully honest there --- but that’s ok; they never catch GOD off guard, for He already knew that they would come into your life, and He allowed it well ahead of time. He perhaps placed YOU in their path for a very good reason ----- you may likely even be the ONLY PRESENCE OF JESUS they EVER come to know. Now is that not a scary thought? So accept the challenge with a full understanding of this!
IV. But we talked about this. It’s unfair!
Let’s say you do continue to lift them up in prayer, even smiling at them at every opportunity you see them, only to have them continue to mock you, ridicule you, and find new ways to make your days as unbearable as theirs ---- if not more. And let’s say this nasty pattern continues to worsen over the years --- then what? Do you back down?
Absolutely not! That’s when you commit even harder to praying for them, knowing that the real enemy, the devil, is about to be broken one day soon --- maybe even through your persistence! Don’t forget: God is testing your strength and perseverance!!!!
V. But they ARE REALLY gonna “get away” with it….?
And to touch upon the last point, while adding this question in...is it really unfair since they’re just going to get away with being nasty to you? Will their acts of ungodliness never catch up with them, in the end, then? Far from it, the thought itself is a lie from the pit of hell, so you can rest assured in knowing this: What comes around does go around!
In the end, God will judge. He will repay. Leave it all in His hands, and don’t try to seek vengeance for yourself. Pray for His perfect intervention to occur at the right moment….
